The new Chevy Corvette has all performance systems including engine, transmission, chassis, tires and suspension. Standard Active Handling works in conjunction with Traction Control and ABS on select 03 and 2005 - 2006 Chevrolet Corvettes, making maximum use of available traction to assist the driver, when needed, in keeping the car in line with steering input. The 2006 Chevrolet Corvette has a chassis, which is all aluminum, hydro formed in similar dies to those used to build the standard steel C6 frame. Magnesium and carbon fiber parts are also used to help contain the total curb weight to less than 3150 pounds. The front grille is larger, and an additional small scoop in front of the hood gulps cool intake air. Barely visible from a distance, 1-centimeter-wide black strips follow the wheel arches, oriented at a right angle to the fender. An all-new LS7 7.0-liter V-8 (the displacement works out to 427 cubic inches) is said to churn out 500 horsepower. It will also be fitted with wider tires and larger Brembo brakes. Body modifications include a high-rise hood, deep side skirts and cooling ducts ahead of the rear wheels. The car's larger-displacement engine and lightweight are claimed to deliver 0-to-60-mph acceleration times of less than 4 seconds, a 12-second quarter-mile and a top speed of more than 190 mph on the track. Just as the base engine grew to 6.0 liters and became the LS2, the Z06 power plant has grown to 7.0 liters and becomes the LS7 V-8. It’s rated for 500 hp at 6,200 rpm and 475 pounds-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm Red brake calipers employ six pistons apiece up front, four pistons per side in the rear and 20 individual brake pads, which Chevrolet says deliver more even wear. The ventilated, cross-drilled brake rotors measure 14 inches in front and 13.4 inches in the rear. ABS is standard. Mini Dirt Bikes

Are you looking for some inside information on automotive? Here's an up-to-date report from automotive experts who should know.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and automotive experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to automotive.

As the name suggests, mini dirt bikes are basically small dirt bikes. They have quite a lot less power than a standard dirt bike but appear virtually the same. Costing much less than a full size, full power dirt bike they are perfect for your budding Motocrosser and becoming very popular with children of all ages.

How do mini dirt bikes differ from standard dirt bikes?

Apart from the fact that they are normally designed to carry only ten stone in weight and are much smaller than a normal dirt bike, a mini dirt bike has a lot less power; normally around a 47cc two-stroke engine. They obviously have all the working parts and are designed as well as a 250cc, and because they weigh less and carry less it is still possible to get a quite impressive 70kph out of them.

The petrol tank is much smaller holding only around 1 litre of petrol and seat height ranges from 500 to 600 mm off the ground. They have full shock suspension and brakes and are perfectly safe to drive as long as a reasonable amount of care and safety is used.

Are mini dirt bikes really safe?

As with any motor powered bike, or car for that matter, there is an element of danger involved and proper safety measures should be taken into consideration especially if you are buying one for your child. It is advised not to let pre teens ride a mini dirt bike because they can still do considerable speed and offer little in protection in the event of a crash.

A helmet and safety suit should be worn an at all times when riding a mini dirt bike, and riding without these is dangerous and fool hardy. As long as you pay close attention to the safety of the rider, though, mini dirt bikes are incredibly good fun and a really good way to get the adrenalin pumping.

How much do mini dirt bikes cost?

The bike itself is comparatively inexpensive, when compared to a full size dirt bike, and you can expect to pay anywhere between £150 and £300 (roughly $300 and $600) depending on the make, model and specifications you require. You also need to buy a strong helmet and protective clothing if you want to take this seriously and safely. These can vary dramatically in price dependant on whether you want the outfit to match the bike, whether you buy a well-known brand and whether you buy new or used.

Obviously you have to pay for petrol but this is next to nothing because a two-stroke 47cc engine will literally run for miles on a litre of petrol. Apart from that, repairs or new parts are really the only other price you need to take into consideration and again, these are relatively inexpensive.

You can't predict when knowing something extra about automotive will come in handy. If you learned anything new about &keyword% in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

Timing belts, the sleeping time bomb

By Ralph Hoffmann

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you'll find that the subject of automotive is certainly no exception.

See how much you can learn about automotive when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don't miss out on the rest of this great information.

Interference Engines: ……..Free Useful informatio

When buying a used car always insist on determining if the vehicle has a rubber timing-belt. Be aware that about five years ago an International Oil Company did a follow up on 5,000 cars it had turned back after 3 year leases and traced them to their eventual private owners. All the cars had by then passed through wholesale auction markets and likely one or more retail dealers before being sold to a private owner. The survey disclosed that 50% of the cars had their odometers illegally turned back.

When buying a used car, supposedly with 40,000 miles for example, and determining it has a rubber timing belt, insist on a written guarantee from the seller to guarantee in writing to replace the timing belt at no charge if it fails within another 20,000 miles, a typical recommended total amount (Call any Dealer to get the recommended amount for the particular make of vehicle). After all, the vehicle may in fact already have 55,000 miles on it. If the seller will not make that guarantee, then he is admitting that the mileage is probably not accurate and by implication may well have been turned back. If the seller will not make that guarantee, consider a compromise, such as $100 maximum cost. If not acceptable, walk away and look elsewhere."

Before buying any car, especially 4-cylinder foreign cars, or even 6-cyl. BMW, be aware of the unavoidable cost of $400-$800 to replace the timing belt at anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 miles if the car has an 'interference' type of engine. The sales person will invariably not mention that an 'interference' type engine powers the vehicle and may not even know what one is. If a timing belt on an interference engine is not replaced at recommended intervals, the repair cost when the belt breaks (not gradually, but always catastrophically) could increase to $3,000 to $5,000 due to engine failure because parts have smashed into each other

An 'interference' engine is an engine design that has been avoided by some manufacturers for well over 80 years. General Motors, Chrysler, etc., typically use a metal chain-type timing belt on push-rod engines (often called a timing chain) to transmit torque from the engine crankshaft o the engine camshaft that opens the valves that admit air and fuel. (Note: on some new cars the fuel is admitted not through the valves but through injectors in the top of the cylinder. Rather than use a steel timing chain, interference engines may use a rubber timing belt with its limited life, whereas steel timing belts typically last 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more.

Valves open further in an interference engine and project further into the combustion chamber than in a 'free-running' engine. This allows outside air at atmospheric pressure flow faster into the combustion chamber through the larger valve opening. The engine can therefore inhale more air, be a little smaller, and still create as much power while reducing its. manufactured cost and also guaranteeing future repair business for its dealer. If a rubber timing belt breaks by not being replaced soon enough, some of the valves stuck in their open position will collide with the top of the pistons, thereby breaking or irreversibly damaging one or the other or both. To make matters worse, it is not possible to measure the wear on such a rubber belt so that it could be replaced when there is some indication of imminent failure. Failure in these belts is catastrophic, without warning. This will require a whole new engine be installed. Woe to the owner. Finally, the rubber belt may have to be replaced long before 60,000 miles solely due to its age. This is really playing a bad poker hand. Interference engines are like a time bomb waiting to explode unless replacing the timing belt at the recommended interval. Be aware of that guaranteed future expense before buying a new car, or especially a used car, " with such an engine.

For details on this subject or for recommended mileage to replace rubber timing belts on interference engines, connect on the Internet to http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=2389&location_id=3053, a worldwide
manufacturer of such belts. When its web site appears, click on Replacement parts/Automotive. Look for 'Timing belt replacement Guide'.

Tips In Buying The Ultimate Car At Low Cost

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding automotive. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about automotive.

Now that we've covered those aspects of automotive, let's turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

You don’t really need to be the ultimate car geek to figure out the ins and outs of savings when buying a new car. You just need some car buying tips, a calculator, a notepad and pen and mental savvy to play the cost game with a couple of car dealers.

To set you on the road to the car that you’ve always wanted without the burden of high costs, here are some car buying tips guaranteed to lighten your path.

Car buying tip #1: Do your price homework.

In order to get the best deal, you have to first determine what the fair price is for the car that you want and what the car costs in various car dealers. Researching for the fair price can be a bit tricky as all dealers would have different prices. One way to do this is to log on to websites such as Cars.com, InvoiceDealers.com, CarsDirect.com, AutoWeb, Edmunds.com, Car.com and AutoUSA and see what their prices are. After comparing, you will have a fairly good idea how it costs.

Car buying tip #2: Price is not everything

While price is the motor that would keep your car buying running, it is not the only thing that you should consider. Most car dealers would have a promo of some sort whether it be a free service, free parts or lower interest rates in financing. Look at this also along with the price. One may have lower prices but may not offer the same package.

Car buying tip #3: Compare and tell

Having done your price homework, you can now use the data to haggle with car dealers. Tell each of them that you are looking at the prices of several dealers. Quote some prices to make them believe you. Knowing this, they will give you their lowest possible price and may even offer some good deals just to prevent you from buying your car at their competitor.

Car buying tip #4: Budget. Budget. Budget

Knowing how much you can shell out and sticking to it can help you in negotiating for a better price. This is one car buying tip that most buyers forget. Remember, dealers can sense your indecision and may not give you the best price that they have in the house.

Car buying tip #5: Secure your finances

Car dealers are not the only ones who can offer great financial deals. You can get a loan from your bank or even from online lenders like Capital One Auto Finance and E-loan.

Car buying tip #6: Consider trade-in

When you have an old car and you will not be using it anymore, consider trading it in to lessen the costs of the other car. Figure its trade-in value and start from there. Some dealers accept trade in but oftentimes, you can get a better deal selling your old car privately.

Car buying tip #7: Allow for a time leeway

Buying a car at the last minute will not only cut off the possibilities of doing research and waiting for better deals but it will also make you quite desperate to buy one. Desperation in any car dealers’ book equals high costs.

Car buying tip #8: Ask for rebates and rewards

When you pay in cash, car dealers offer special discounts, rebates or rewards. Make sure that you ask your car dealer about them as some can “conveniently” forget about them until after you are out the door.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of automotive. Share your new understanding about automotive with others. They'll thank you for it.

What You Should Not Do When Buying A New Car

What You Should Not Do When Buying A New Car

The following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you have a better experience with automotive.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there's more to automotive than you may have first thought.

For people who have failed their mechanical aptitude test, the difference between a handbrake and the fender would probably be something that needs consulting in the dictionary. Buying a new car is never easy but for some it can even rival the SAT.

With hundreds of articles handing out tips in buying a new car, you should know by now what you should look for, what you should bring and what else you should do, but do you know what you should not do when buying that new car you want?

Never go without knowing what you want.

In buying a new car, it is not uncommon to have one or two choices but please keep it at that. Having more than two choices will spell not only trouble for your pocket but also a waste of your time. Knowing what you want when buying a new car will give you the confidence to talk to car dealers plus it will also enable you to ask questions specific to the car model. This will also allow you to do some research before hitting the stores. Believe this, there is no one dubious car dealers want more than buyers who do not have an idea what they want when buying a new car.

Never negotiate for something that you know nothing of

When haggling with dealers, do not negotiate until you have already canvassed the price. This is a no no in buying a new car. If you have no time to scout for car prices, you can always go to your car dealer’s websites or even ask friends and people you work with. Just tell them you are buying a new car and they will be more than happy to help. That way, you know what the bottomline and you know whether that bottomline can fit your budget.

Never let on that you absolutely need the car

Attitude is the name of the game when buying a new car. Remember that dealers need you more than you need them, so don’t act as if the car is the last of its model on earth (unless it’s vintage). In buying a new car, do it with professional savvy. Never let on that you are desperate for their product or that their price is the lowest you have seen in a hundred miles radius. Be cool when buying a new car and you’ll surely get a cool deal.

Never let one dealer buy you a car from another dealer

While others do this because of the absolute lack of time, it is still not advisable especially if you are buying a new car for the first time. Some dealers may not only try to sell you the car at a higher price, they might even try to scam you. If you absolutely have to do it, do not sign anything or put down a deposit until you have seen the product in the flesh.

Never take on add-on fees until you have reviewed them

Scammers plague people who are buying a new car for the first time. Because they know that you don’t have much experience in buying a new car, dealers will sometimes put on additional somethings to the final cost of the car such as “rustproofing,” “environmental prep,” and a host of others. Beware of this first-time buyer scams.

This article's coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.

How to buy a good truck or a car found at the Internet site?

By Pavel Borodin

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you'll find that the subject of automotive is certainly no exception.

If you don't have accurate details regarding automotive, then you might make a bad choice on the subject. Don't let that happen: keep reading.

The Net is constantly growing and its users develop more and more applications and utilize it in completely new ways. Several years ago a couple of new sites showed up in the Net; these sites were dedicated to the sale of automotive vehicles. Since that time the number of these sites has substantially increased and I have participated in building search engine for used truck sale -European www.truck1st.com , American www.truck1st.us and Russian www.truck1st.ru. Basing on my experience in Internet used truck sales, I can offer you several recommendations on buying trucks and cars; I hope you'll find them very useful.

The main goal of this kind of sites is to connect sellers and buyers of automotive vehicles, both new and used. Using such sites makes vehicle trade much easier for sellers as well as for buyers. These sites create virtual marketplace where buyers can offer their vehicles and sellers can look through the buyers’ stock. So the search for the customer or for specific vehicle becomes unnecessary, saving lots of time and money for both parties.

In practice it looks as follows. The seller places his vehicles at the website, usually it is vehicle description, pictures and additional info (price, delivery terms and contacts). See www.truck1st.com for specific examples. So when the buyer wants to buy a vehicle, he gets online, connects to the website and looks through the sellers’ vehicles. Then he gets in touch with the seller, confirms vehicle specification and availability and purchases the vehicles. Such internet trade allows to shop for vehicles located not only your vicinity, but nationwide and even worldwide. Sometimes it saves a lot of money and lets find exactly what you are looking for.

It is clear that the used car or truck technical condition is a crucial factor. When choosing used truck or car, the more choice you have – the better the chances that you will buy a vehicle in good technical condition. In this case Internet purchase is a very effective solution.

So let’s contact the seller and clear everything up. It is better done by phone, though email message is also acceptable. But you will save a lot of time by making simple phone call. Besides, the human factor in communication is very important, so pick up the phone and call him.
What should I mention during my first contact with the seller? Here is a list. But very important – write down everything the seller will say to you. Later, when you think everything over to make decision, you will appreciate it later.

So let’s contact the seller and clear everything up. It is better done by phone, though email message is also acceptable. But you will save a lot of time by making simple phone call. Besides, the human factor in communication is very important, so pick up the phone and call him.
What should I mention during my first contact with the seller? Important – write down everything the seller will say to you. Later, when you think everything over to make decision, you will appreciate it.

1. First of all represent yourself, name the reason of your call and website where you have found the truck. Ask if the vehicle is still available.

2. Let’s assume it is not sold yet. Then ask about every word in the description to check it is really true. It is much better if you spend 2 minutes of your time now, than to come to the buyer after and find out that there is no air conditioning, though it was mentioned at the website.

3. Ask about everything that was not described – minor technical problems, condition of engine, body, clutch, suspension, tyres, interior. Do not forget anything, you should have complete picture in your mind. For example, the cost of new tyres for tractor truck is about 200$ for a wheel and a lot of people usually forget to ask about tyre condition.

4. When it comes to price, do not be shy to argue a bit. Usually people put a little higher price that would actually satisfy them. Anyway a little of bargaining never harmed anyone.

It is much better for if you choose several vehicles and make several calls. You should not restrict yourself to a single truck, remember – the more choice you have, the better truck you will buy.

So by this time you should have called 3-4 sellers and have 3-4 papers with complete description at your table. Now its your time – relax and think everything over and make your final decision. Sometimes it is wise to call the sellers again and tell them that you have a little better offers – it will surprisingly move the prices down and help you make your final decision.

That’s it, now you are ready to go and pick up your new used truck. Just don’t forget to let your eyes see everything your ears heard – take the paper with vehicle description (that you have written down during your talk with the seller) and check everything. It is very advisable that you check the truck or car at the local service center – let professionals do their job.

And by the way, the last price is always fixed after final vehicle examination.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.

Researching Vehicles Online

By Amber Lowery

When most people think of automotive, what comes to mind is usually basic information that's not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there's a lot more to automotive than just the basics.

Now that we've covered those aspects of automotive, let's turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

The purchase of a new car is a serious investment. It is best that you do your homework before purchasing a new vehicle, to avoid ending up with a vehicle thats overpriced or just not right for your needs. Luckily, with the help of the internet, you can do all of your research directly online from the comfort of your home.

Your first goal should be to figure out what type of vehicle is right for your family. Are you looking for a sports car, or do you have children and need a sedan, minivan or SUV? You need to consider how many seats you need and how much storage space for cargo.

With todays rising gas prices, you may want to opt for the most fuel efficient type of vehicle. In other words, carefully compare the difference in gas mileage between two types of vehicles before choosing the one thats right for you. A sedan will likely use much less gas than a minivan, and if you dont need the extra seats or cargo room, you can save a significant ammount of fuel cost over the lifetime of a vehicle. Minivans and SUV's use similar ammounts of gas, depending on the size of the vehicle. A mini SUV may be a good choice over a full size SUV, saving you money every time you fill up at the pumps.

After you know what type of vehicle you are shopping for, you can focus on a make and model. Be sure to read reviews from existing owners, they often times can save you from purchasing something that isnt going to make you happy.

There are many excellent consumer review sites on the internet that have a wealth of information on what owners like and dislike about their vehicles.

Here are a couple of sites to get you started:
http://auto.consumerguide.com
http://www.edmunds.com

Many auto review sites also offer price guides so that you can know in advance what the vehicle of your choice is likely to cost you. Also, auto makers often offer price quotes directly from their sites. You can also find additional information, pictures, and sometimes video at the auto makers sites.

Once you have done all of your research, selected the make an model of the vehicles you are interested in, you can then go to your local dealership armed with all of the information necessary to make an informed buying decision. By researching vehicles online, you can save time, money and gain piece of mind.

Now you can be a confident expert on automotive. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on automotive.

Cars can be loaded up with a number of protection enhancements like additional airbags, better seatbelts, anti-lock brakes, halogen lights and other equipments that can add more protection and even style to our vehicle. One of these is the bumper.

There are two kinds of bumpers that are usually installed in one's car, the front and rear bumpers. These are huge reshaped metal shields designed to absorb shock from minor, low-speed collisions. Bumpers are not only designed to protect the vehicle's passengers, most are made to enhance the vehicle's appearance. It can either add more balance to the automobile's look and even contribute to the vehicle's aerodynamic design. A well-designed bumper is a perfect balance between the two aspects, it can protect and add beauty.

With the surge of automobile customization, bumpers are now only considered to be add-ons to enhance the look of one's automobile. Others just have their bumpers custom made to fit their liking and disregarding its most important aspect, giving protection.

But we do not overlook the importance of a bumper's protective capacity. We always make sure that there is a complete balance between the two. We offer custom-made bumpers that are not only stylish but have also passed Federal standards with high marks.

Accel Spark Plug Wires

A spark plug wire's task is no joke. Imagine carrying 50,000 volts multiple times a second under a 200-degree temperature. It is responsible for harnessing tens of thousands of volts and delivering this juice to the spark plugs every time, without fail. A poor-quality spark plug wire can waste your engine's energy by driving the electricity somewhere else. If not replaced on time, your poor spark plug wire can cause engine misfiring, break your spark plug, and give a rough running. A new set of spark plug wires, on the other hand, can restore your car's maximum ignition performance

With 30 years of experience and expertise, Accel commits to deliver maximum spark energy. Accel Spark Plug Wire increases ignition energy due to lower resistance. Equipped with a High Gloss Silicon Jacket, a Conductive Graphite Coating, a Heavy Gauge Copper-Nickel Alloy Conductor, a Ferrite EM/RFI Suppression Element, and an All Kevlar Stranded Inner Core, it is truly made for the performance enthusiast. Porsche's History

It's hard to say exactly which is the beginning of Porsche's history. It could be in 1950, when the famous Max Hoffman introduced the Porsche 356 to the United States. Or in 1948 when the first automobile to bear the name Porsche was introduced. But in order to understand Porsche’s history, heritage and its philosophy we need to go back to 1875, when, in September, at the home of a tinsmith in the Bohemian village of Haffersdorf, a son was born. His name was Ferdinand Porsche.

Since his adolescence, Ferdinand Porsche showed glimpses of technical genius: at the age of 18, he wired family's home for electricity in 1893. Still, he didn’t show many signs of disciplined engineering skills that will eventually become his trademark. Even if the “Doctor” is usually appended to his name, it is in essence honorary, since his only formal technical training was as a part-time engineering student in Vienna.

By the age of 25, the young Ferdinand Porsche had entered the field of automotive design. His first car design was already accepted by Lohner & Co. of Vienna. Over the next 20 years, Ferdinand Porsche, the temperamental but brilliant engineer succeeded in associating with every major automobile manufacturer in Germany. At the same time, he designed a dozen of the most technically significant cars in history.

Working for Mercedes-Benz, he helped develop the most revered Mercedes-Benz cars of all time: the SSK series. For NSU, he designed Auto Union Wanderer and the Type 32, a precursor of the Volkswagen Beetle.

After being dismissed from Mercedes for disagreeing with the firm's staid engineering policies, Porsche decided to establish what later became Porsche A.G.: his own engineering consulting group. In a small office in Stuttgart, the senior Dr. Porsche gathered a select group of engineers to work under the dramatic name, "Doctor of Engineering Ferdinand Porsche, Inc., Construction Facility for Land, Air, and Sea Transportation." One of his employees was his youthful son, Ferry. His primary interest was one that any young man might select: sports and racing cars.

The senior Dr. Porsche and his team were kept extremely busy. The consulting firm developed for Steyr (now the utility-vehicle wing of the Steyr- Daimler-Puch combine), the Austria luxury sedan, but it did not progress beyond the prototype stage. They worked a lot for Auto Union, now Audi: the company developed the Front, the world's first front-drive economy car. They astonished Auto Union with the mid-engine Grand Prix cars and their supercharged V-12 and V-16 engines which, together with Mercedes- Benz racers, dominated European auto racing for nearly a decade.

After that, the firm created its best-known designs for NSU and Zundapp. The pair of prototypes was characterized by Dr. Porsche's patented torsion-bar suspension and a rear-mounted engine. Since neither company moved rapidly enough to manufacture the designs, Porsche sold the concept to the German government. Then, he oversaw the construction of a plant on Wolfsburg to manufacture the design. His drawings called the car the Type 60. The world came to know it as the Volkswagen Beetle

After the second World War, the Porsche Company started to create vehicles that beard its name, and so became knows world wide. Now, nearly a century later, Porsche became the marque and the family that created outstanding, often unique and surely lasting contributions to automotive
engineering and design.

Porsche Brief History: Of The Come About Of Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche played an important role in the development of airplanes and racing cars, and the construction of tanks for the Wehrmacht. He is an automobile engineer with more than a thousand patents to his name. He was appointed chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart in the 1920s. Later on, he set up his own engineering workshop and designed among others the Volkswagen. At the plant where Volkswagen was made, Wolfsburg, he was chief of operations and at the end of the war he was interned by the Allies.

He was released a few years later and started building his first car with his son, Ferry Porsche. The car was named the Porsche 356 and it was a sports car and a reminiscent of the Volkswagen. It had the same four-cylinder boxer engine that was rear-mounted, just like the VW. It was far from being a powerful sports car, developing only 40 bhp and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h).

First produced as a convertible and later as a hard top it distinguished by the very elegant and innovative body. It was developed in the workshop of Erwin Komenda, a master of restrained streamlining who had been in charge of sheet metal and design techniques at Porsche since the VW Beetle. The new style of closed coupe was designed by Komenda and it soon became the embodiment of the sports car, thanks to its fastback.

This tradition was continued by Komenda and Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, the founder’s grandson, with the 911.

The 911 became easily recognizable: it had attractive sloping bonnet and what later became characteristic “frog eye” headlights, curves running from the top edge of the windscreen to the rear bumper and a straight waistline. From a functional and technical point of view it was more like BMW 1500, although it retained the stylistic features of the original Porsche.

The new 911 will become the foundation stone of Porsche’s identity, even though the design was not always appreciated. During the 1970`s and 1980`s, the designers attempts to distance Porsche from its legendary design brought the company to the edge of disaster. The more modern 924 model, “a people’s Porsche”, developed with Volkswagen, as well as the 928 were far from fulfilling the expectations.

In the 1990`s, the company realized that what for over twenty years was perceived as a straitjacket, it was in fact a market advantage. During the 1990`s, Porsche became highly profitable since they now knew that the typical Porsche features were timeless. Nearly forty people now worked in the design department on further developments of the long-running 911. These developments included the 911 GTI, a powerful combination of sports and racing car, put forward by the in-house designer Anthony R. Hatter. In 1999, chief designer proudly presented the new Boxster which enabled Porshe to establish a second independent range of models.

Find your dream beamer in Japan!

Japanese auto makers such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Subaru are known world wide for producing high quality, efficient and durable cars. Car auctions in Japan give you the chance to buy and export a used Japanese brand car to your country, usually with big savings on similar priced cars you can find in your local dealership. But Japanese drivers also love foreign brands such as Audi, Bentley, Land Rover, BMW, Mercedez Benz, Porsche, Volvo and Volkswagon. It's possible to find these luxury cars at http://www.used-car-japan.com/foreign-used-cars-japan.php at Japanese car auctions and you can certainly make a very good saving on buying and exporting from Japan. Japanese drivers take care of their vehicles and because of rigorous safety inspections, taxes and other fees it is more cost effective for a Japanese driver to change their car to a newer model regularly. This means a large pool of well maintained used cars for sale and export.

The auction and export process Your first step to finding a cheap luxury car is to find a reputable dealer. Second hand car dealers don't have the most solid of reputations to begin with and there are cases of foreign buyers being ripped off by dodgey dealers, but these are definately in the minority. First, check out the dealers website and see if they have full contact and bank information and are members of the JUMVEA which is the Japanese government sanctioned trade body for foreign car exporters. Membership means that members have to abide by a code of best practice. Also, make sure that the company is registered with the local government - they should display a government trade license number. Second, test communication with the dealer by either sending an email or calling (many dealers have Skype or similar so you can do it for free). In your initial emails look out for quality of English, timely response and level of details in the answer. Unanswered or evasive answers and poor quality English may lead to misunderstandings later on. Once you have contacted several dealers and filtered some out you can start to browse seriously for a car. You can use this at http://www.used-car-japan.com/japanese-used-car-search.php tool to contact several dealers at once to save you the hassle of filling out loads of forms on different websites.

Auction and exporting process Generally you can either buy directly from the dealers stock of cars (which they make have from spotting a bargin at auction and bought for later resale) or request they look for something for you at auctions. You can have a very specific or very general request and the dealer will try to find something and send you deatils of the cars. All the major car auctions are online and dealers have access to national daily auctions giving a choice of upto 40,000 cars a day! Once you get the car details you can decide to bid or not, send a maximum price you want to bid and sit back and wait for the result! The dealer will try to get the lowest price for you so you don't pay more than you have to. Once you have won a car then you also have to consider paying for paperwork fees, transportation, shipping, insurance and customs import taxes when the car arrives in your country.

Local auto regulation compliance You also have to make sure the car complies with all local auto regulations. Some dealers may help you with this especially if they are in your own country, but others will probably not give much help. Therefore before you buy make sure you know what you will have to do to make the car legal in your own country. If you're buying a European brand then these are less likely to be an issue as cars made for Europe and re-imported from Japan are the same models so it's likely that the manufacturer already has approval for that car in your country.

Summary
Japanese used car auctions are a great source of both Japanese and foreign brand quality used cars. You can get a great deal for a little research and shopping around, and although it's not the quickest or easiest way to buy a new car, it's certainly a lot of fun and can be much cheaper than buying in your own country.

Volvo's New 3CC

Volvo unveil their design for sustainable mobility

Volvo Car Corporation is rewriting the rulebook on how we will use our cars in the future with its 3CC prototype being unveiled to the public for the first time at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Shanghai, October 12-14.

Under the bonnet of the 3CC is an electric powertrain that quietly propels the car to a governed top speed of over 135 km/h (85 mph) and delivers 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in approximately ten seconds with zero emissions. The Volvo 3CC has dimensions similar to a classic 2-seater sports car but incorporates a unique two-plus-one configuration, providing seating for two adults in the front and a unique rear seat solution for an additional adult or two children.

"With the Volvo 3CC, Volvo Cars is pioneering a new way of looking at mobility so future generations can enjoy the same freedoms the car has given my generation. We believe it is necessary to show new ways to reduce pollution and congestion," says Lars Erik Lundin, Vice President & General Manager of the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center (VMCC).
The Volvo 3CC is the brainchild of the designers, engineers and business people at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center think-tank in California. Their task was to create a `future-proof concept' that would enhance sustainable mobility. A car not only fuel-efficient, versatile, comfortable, and safe, but also exciting to drive and look at.
"We want to connect in a positive way with consumers so that they say 'I want to be seen in this car' ", Lars Erik Lundin explains. "We want to add emotional value to people's lives by offering an environmentally compatible car that appeals to all the senses, and which people want to drive."
Despite its small proportions, the Volvo 3CC has been designed to feel spacious through organic lines, and light colors. Inside, the fixed eye plane ergonomics and low profile A-pillar aim to create a sense of openness aided by three transparent panels in the roof. As the doors open by swinging upwards, a floating dash panel slides forward to ease ingress and egress. A sliding seat system also assists access to the rear seat. The pedals also adjust for individual requirements.
In the 3CC, Volvo aimed to attractively present a concept that was focused on efficient mobility. This was achieved through good aerodynamics on a compact footprint, lightweight body materials, and an electric powertrain. Volvo opted to give the 3CC a high strength steel space frame and composite sandwich floor panels for safety and reduced weight. The outer body is a bonded one piece carbon fibre shell.
"The double floor used to house the electric energy storage makes the concept future-proof in that the layout can be adapted for the most appropriate powertrain in the future, whether it be petrol, diesel, biogas, or hybrid electric," explains Ichiro Sugioka, Science Officer at VMCC in California.
"In Shanghai, we are demonstrating the electric powertrain, one of the most challenging to package into a vehicle, to highlight its potential where there is abundance of renewable energy that can be converted to electricity." Wind tunnel tests resulted in an enhanced aerodynamic efficiency that is 30% better than the new S40 sedan.
With a potential driving range of over 300 km (180 miles) under certain driving conditions, the torque-to-weight ratio is roughly comparable to the V70 T5 but available over 0 - 3500 rpm. In typical driving conditions, about 20 percent of the energy can be recovered by regenerative braking. This performance is achieved using a drivetrain specifically designed for the 3CC, although it too is a prototype. The electric power comes from lithium-ion cells identical to those used in modern laptop computers that are packaged in the thin sandwich floor.
Front wheel driven, the Volvo 3CC at Shanghai has double wishbone front and rear suspension. The front suspension includes horizontally mounted adjustable coil over shocks that give a low bonnet line. The rear suspension includes vertically mounted adjustable coil over shocks. Due to the vehicle's light weight and the power of the regenerative electric braking, unassisted brakes provide good stopping power.
The interior of the Volvo 3CC offers dynamic ergonomic positioning for both driver and front passenger. Unique solutions include replacing instrument panel toggles with proximity sensors that are activated by a finger as it gets to within 5 mm to adjust lights, climate, and audio system.
"Rather than refining existing cars and technologies for new markets, Volvo has listened, questioned and speculated about the future and developed this all new concept," says Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President of Brand, Product & Business Strategy. "We think the Volvo 3CC opens a door into that future and we will develop the concept further."

What You Should Not Do When Buying A New Car

2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR Preview – New York Auto Show

Ironically, the worse Ford does, the better Carroll Shelby seems to fare. You'd think that it would be the opposite, seeing as automaker and maker of autos are forever connected by historic acts of automotive genius. Yet when Ford falters, when they need a headline, ‘ol Carroll is at the ready, riding into town with a new supercar Ford fans will easily fall for, and hard. That, of course, is by design, and Shelby (with Ford) is at it again, this time at the 2007 New York Auto Show where they'll debut the Ford Shelby GT500KR in the Big Apple.

Details of Mercedes’ super-sports car

Mercedes won’t be taking any chances in the performance stakes with its new super-sports car following the disappointing results of its SLR supercar, which rarely comes first in comparo reviews.
The new model is set to be slotted in between the SLR and SL, and could feature a 700hp version of the 6.2L AMG V8 engine according to Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport. However, we think it’d probably be closer to 600hp so as to not step on the toes of the SLR flagship. The source also reports that it might carry the name ‘SLC’ and could also feature a biturbo V8 model as well.
The SLC will share much in common with the next-generation SL Roadster, including most of the interior but will get its own carbon-fiber roof.

Mercedes-Benz will team up with its official DTM partner, HWA AG, to co-develop and build its new super-sports car as well as several other high-end performance models. The luxury brand is reportedly disappointed by the performance of its SLR McLaren when compared against its main rivals, and this is said to be a key reason why it sought a new partner to develop its latest sports car, reports Automotive News Europe.
In steps HWA. The motorsports company was formed by Hans-Werner Aufrecht in 1967, one of the founders of AMG, and is best known for its HWA Racing team, which competes in the German touring car series with the CLK-DTM.

The new model will be a race car built for the road and is likely to be powered by a higher performance version of the hand-built 6.2L V8 engine from AMG. To make it road-legal, the car will be officially sold under the Mercedes AMG label, but it will remain a genuine HWA race-developed product. Expect to see a concept version at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
HWA will also be investing €4.5 million to expand its manufacturing facilities, which will see its current plant extend from 1,200 to 3,600 square meters. HWA spokesman Hans Jürgen Matheis revealed to The Insider that the motorsports company always had the ambition to prove to Mercedes that it could build a better road-car than McLaren, and now it finally gets its chance.
McLaren fans shouldn’t be completely disappointed. Substantial cash flows from its successful F1 team and the freeing up of resources from this latest announcement could eventually pave the way for the development of a successor to the original McLaren F1.

Honda dropping the Accord Hybrid

Honda will not launch a hybrid version of its next-generation Accord sedan when the revamped model goes on sale in the second half of the year. According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Honda will instead promote a new range of petrol-electric hybrid versions of the new Civic and another subcompact model currently in development.
Under a new program, Honda’s midsize and large vehicles, including the next Accord, will feature a new clean-diesel powertrain that’s scheduled for introduction by 2009.
Last month, we reported that Honda was working on an affordable, high-volume model that would be hybrid only, as well as a new hybrid sports coupe for launch in 2009. The senior vice president of Honda Motor Europe, Ken Keir, told reporters from Automotive News that the entry-level hybrid will be a family-targeted model and be offered to worldwide markets for around $25,000.
In early May, Honda also announced that it would launch a hydrogen fuel-cell sedan next year to be based on its four-door FCX Concept car. It will be very interesting to see if Honda manages to live up to its bold claims, but we for one welcome the introduction of a cleaner lineup.

Supercharged LS7 V8 destined for Cadillac CTS-V?

Chevrolet is expected to release a supercharged version of its Corvette Z06 later this year, featuring a force-fed 7.0L LS7 V8 developing upwards of 700hp. The latest buzz is that GM won’t limit this awesome powerplant to the Corvette but may shoehorn it into the chassis of a Cadillac CTS-V saloon for the 2009 model-year.
Don’t expect the full 700hp output. According to Motor Trend, the Caddy will run a detuned version with roughly 600hp on tap. This is still significantly higher than any of its rivals, including super-sedans like the 507hp BMW M5 and Mercedes E63.
In naturally aspirated form, the LS7 V8 already produces a substantial 505hp but the engine is said to be lacking enough low-end grunt to give that off-the-line shove. In addition to the new powerplant, engineers will also be adding uprated springs and shocks, larger Brembo brakes, a quicker steering ratio, widened fenders and a sports bodykit.

Mercedes developing 35MPG Bluetec diesel S-class

Mercedes-Benz is reported to be developing a new version of its S-class limo equipped with an ultra-efficient Bluetec diesel engine. With a motor displacing just 2.2L, the new diesel driven S-class should return a fuel economy rating of just 6.6L per 100km, or roughly 35mpg.
We should get our first glimpse of the new car at September’s Frankfurt Auto Show, with production scheduled to start towards the end of next year. Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport reports that Mercedes will be combining the four-cylinder oil-burner with its new mild-hybrid system to achieve the amazingly low consumption figures.
Mercedes previously showcased a Bluetec hybrid S-Class concept at the 2005 Frankfurt Auto Show, but unlike the concept car which featured a V6 powerplant, the production version will run a twin-turbo four-cylinder motor that produces 204hp.
The vehicle will be in full compliance with future Euro 6 emissions standards, which are expected to roll in by 2014, and we should see its efficient powertrain eventually offered in the E and C-class range.

Lexus LS460 by Wald International

My first classic car

Somewhere around age 55, a flock of new aches and pains descended upon me. My doctor told me it was old age. Thanks! According to him, there was nothing I could do except take Advil. With the benefit of hindsight, I'm pretty sure that's why I decided to buy a classic car and restore it. I figured if I couldn't fix my body, at least I could fix up a car. It was a way of fighting back at old age and the pull of gravity that works relentlessly to drag us down, shrink us and turn us to dust. Well, maybe gravity was going to get me, but it would have to put up a real fight to get my classic car. I decided that I was going to leave behind a nice, shiny, two-ton memorial made of steel, glass and chrome that would outlive me by at least a century. There was no question in my mind which car I would restore. Cadillac ruled the roads when I was kid. Sure, I'd owned Mercedes and BMWs in adulthood, and my wife even drives the big, kid haulin' Chevy Suburban. But nothing said luxury and success like the Cadillacs of the 1940s, '50s and '60s.

Hell, if it was good enough for Elvis, it was good enough for me. So I started looking for a Caddy. Because I use the Internet for research in my work, I started there. And, like a lot of classic car buffs, I ended up on eBay. I chose the 1958 for a lot of reasons. First, it was big! And it had fins. I wanted a Cadillac that could swim along the freeway like a big, scary Great White shark. I liked the 1958 Caddy better than the '57 because it had twin headlights on each side. And I liked it better than the '59 because I didn't like those Jetsons' rocket ship tail lights Cadillac added that year. To me, the 1958 Caddy was truly "Motordom's Masterpiece," big but not too big, garish but not too garish--perfect in design and style.

There were two 1958 Cadillacs for sale on the Internet that I liked. One was a Series 62 Coupe up in Canada and the other was a Sedan De Ville owned by Cadillac LaSalle Club (CLC)member Chris Bruno in San Francisco. I was worried about buying a car from Canada and getting it over the border to the Los Angeles area where I live. So I e-mailed Chris, made him an offer for his car and asked him to stop the auction. He agreed and I went off to a Father's Day barbecue at my in-laws, very pleased with myself and telling everybody about my plans to fly up to San Francisco and drive the big Sedan De Ville home. But, when I got home, Chris phoned me and told me he had not been able to stop the auction. A Norwegian had outbid me and paid immediately through Pay Pal, closing the deal. That was my first lesson in buying an old Cadillac -- never underestimate the Scandinavians.

They love 1958 Cadillacs, they move fast and they are willing to pay top dollar to get them.I went back to look at the Canadian Series 62 Coupe, but the seller had withdrawn it from the auction because he didn't get his reserve price. So, I e-mailed him, got his phone number and made him an offer. I didn't even go to Canada to look at the car before buying it because the seller had posted about 50 detailed pictures of the car on the Internet, including the engine and undercarriage, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting. Keep in mind, I'm also a guy who will "hit" on 19 in Blackjack, hoping to get a 2. But I got very lucky with this Series 62 Coupe.National PostWhat I found out almost six months after I bought the car was that the seller had purchased the car from its original owner 26 years earlier.

And the original owner lived in Victoria. That meant two things: First, I was the third owner of the car; second, the car spent all of its life on the Canadian West Coast where it rarely snows and salt isn't put on the roads. Other than a California car, Victoria or Vancouver cars usually endure far better than their eastern counterparts.Shipping a car from Canada is a major pain in the you-know-what! Most American transport companies don't want to deal with the paperwork required at the border.

I tried about six U.S. carriers and they all turned me down. Finally, I went after a Canadian company called TFX International, which transported the car to me in California in an enclosed carrier. When the car arrived in Malibu, the transport driver called me at home. He couldn't get his big rig down our street, so my son Harry and I drove up to a school where the driver had parked and we off-loaded the car there. I asked the driver what he thought of the car. "Starts up every time!" he said. So Harry and I drove the big 1958 Caddy the quarter mile home and parked it in the driveway.

The next day, some friends came over and I took pics of the car. It was what you'd call a 10-footer. But the interior was exceptionally nice -- the front and back seats were still covered with that factory plastic. And everything worked except the radio antenna and the clock. What else is new?I had done my homework while waiting for the car to arrive. In fact, I joined the Cadillac La Salle Club before I even got the car. CLC member Chris Bruno helped me a lot, advising on what to do with an old car to avoid big problems, such as flushing out all the liquid systems in the car -- gas, oil, water. Another CLC member, John Milliken, was also extremely helpful. He lived near me in California and I cold called him, asking him for help with painters, replaters and the whole team I'd need to take my car from a 10-footer to a "one-incher." John graciously spent a long time on the phone with me, giving me names and phone numbers. And I could tell he knew what he was talking about

The proof was that the following year, John's 1941 Caddy convertible won Best in Show (Pre-War) at the 2006 CLC Grand National in Anaheim. When talking to Chris and John, I really felt as if I was entering a new world. These guys who owned old Cadillacs seemed like a different breed than the show folks I normally worked with in the entertainment industry. They would spend time with you on the phone, generously giving free advice and bending over backward to give a new guy like me shortcuts they had learned from their restoration experiences. It was a nice feeling for me to walk into a friendly group like that.
